JoyceDeWitt started her stage show at age 13. She graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree at Ball State University. During her summer stock performance she was encouraged by the director to attend UCLA's Department of Theater MFA Program. She was awarded the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship as well as the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt stated that she had never had a conversation with Abe Vigoda during her time at UCLA. The role she played by DeWitt as Janet Wood in Three's Company's run from 1977 to 1984 is her most well-known. She was cast in the pilot of the show, and then employed. She also played Janet in a 1979 episode of the spinoff show The Ropers. DeWitt made her acting debut in the episode 1984 of Three's Company. She returned to acting, taking an appearance in the production of Noises Off at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse in June 1991. [1] She later appeared in the 1995 TV comedy film Spring Fling! A character that was based on her voice, which was voiced by another actress, was in a 1997 episode of Pinky and the Brain. She appeared in an episode Cybill and also made an appearance in Living Single's last episode. Her 2000s work include TV shows like Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special and Call of the Wild.
