Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for over 20 years. She is also an accomplished public speaking. Feminist Frequency provides videos, commentaries and analysis of the way in which popular culture portrays women. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and an American feminist media critic. Feminist Frequency, a web-based resource dedicated to education, which examines women's role in the narratives of pop culture, is her brainchild. Additionally, she serves as the executive director. She's committed to removing stereotypes of women as they are portrayed in popular culture. Additionally, she works to raise awareness about online harassment targeted at women, and other marginalized groups of people. Sarkeesian also holds a York University master's in social philosophy, political and philosophical thinking. In addition to being an acclaimed public speaker she has made presentations at TEDxWomen The XOXO Conference as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Inquiring about gender identities and feminisms from the age of 7, she started her site Feminist Frequency in 2009, while studying at the University. It was a girl determined to make a series of web videos to examine the how gender is represented in video games. However, she became the victim of online harassment. However the attack could not deter her instead it only strengthened her resolve as a feminist media critic. Her many notable contributions in the field of feminist have been recognized by numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic, has been awarded several awards and founded Feminist Frequency, an educational non-profit that examines the ways women are depicted within media narratives.
