Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on October 28, 1967 to Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. Her family is the fourth Roberts family to have resided in Atlanta. The story began with her great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts who was farmer. Her father was a theatre enthusiast at an early stage. In 1952, while an undergraduate at Emory University, he performed in a variety of productions in Atlanta. He joined the air force in 1953. While working in Biloxi Mississippi was cast in the military's production, which featured Betty Lou Bredemus who was also in the Air force. They got married in 2005, and welcomed their first child, Eric Anthony in 1956. Walter went to Tulane University at New Orleans in the year 1957, after the couple had left the Air Force of the United States. The family relocated in 1960 from Louisiana to Decatur Georgia where Walter began working for Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. Walter as well as Betty Lou financed their own production of a Sunday morning children's show, Bum Bum and His Buddies. They also founded the Actors and Writers Workshop in that same year. It lasted six years. They were blessed with two additional children Lelisa (called Lisa) Billingsley in the year 1965, in 1965 and Julia (called Julie) in 1967.
